What to expect at Your Pet's Consultation

Border Collie with Stethoscope

Your pet’s initial holistic consultation is a 60-minute appointment dedicated to evaluating their mobility, comfort, strength, and overall musculoskeletal health.

We begin by reviewing your pet’s medical history and discussing any concerns you may have regarding their mobility, comfort, behavior, or changes in activity level. Our goal is to identify areas of discomfort, weakness, imbalance, or restricted movement that may be affecting their daily activities and quality of life.

Your Pet’s Evaluation Will Include:

  • Gait Analysis: Observing how your pet walks and moves to identify abnormalities, lameness, or compensatory movement patterns.
  • Neurological Assessment: Evaluating for neurological deficits that may affect coordination, balance, and mobility.
  • Muscle Strength Assessment: Assessing and grading muscle strength to identify areas of weakness or muscle imbalance.
  • Range of Motion Evaluation: Examining joint flexibility and movement to identify stiffness, restrictions, or discomfort.
  • Orthopedic Examination: Evaluating the joints, muscles, and skeletal system for pain, instability, or other abnormalities.
  • Postural Assessment: Observing your pet’s stance, alignment, and weight distribution to identify potential imbalances or compensatory changes.
  • Body Condition Scoring: Assessing your pet’s body condition and weight to determine how they may influence mobility and overall health.

What Happens Next?

Following the examination, we will review our findings with you, discuss any areas of concern, and develop an individualized treatment plan tailored to your pet’s specific needs, health status, and lifestyle.

In most cases, your pet will also receive their first treatment during this initial appointment. Treatment will be selected based on our examination findings, with an emphasis on improving comfort, supporting mobility, and optimizing overall physical function.

We will also discuss recommendations for continued care, which may include additional treatments, therapeutic exercises, at-home activities, and lifestyle modifications. Follow-up visits may be recommended to monitor your pet’s progress and adjust their treatment plan as needed.

Our Goal

Our holistic approach focuses on treating the whole pet, not just individual symptoms. By identifying areas of discomfort, weakness, or dysfunction, we strive to develop a personalized care plan that supports your pet’s overall well-being.

Our ultimate goal is to help your pet move more comfortably, maintain strength and mobility, and enjoy the best possible quality of life.
